Dr Hamish McLure

Dr Hamish McLure studied medicine at St Andrews and Manchester University before training in anaesthesia in London. His first consultant anaesthetist post was at the Royal Marsden Hospital. He then moved north to Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in 2001 where he works as an obstetric anaesthetist, and also provides anaesthesia for kidney transplantation and long terms venous access. Alongside his clinical work, Dr McLure is the Medical Director for Professional Standards and Workforce Development, and he is the Responsible Officer looking after more than 1500 doctors. He’s a Regional Medical Appraiser in which he appraises Medical Directors and Responsible Officers across the north of England. These various roles have given Dr McLure a broad range of experience managing serious untoward adverse events, colleagues in difficulty, colleagues going through conduct or capability procedures, mediations between colleagues and investigating and writing reports following serious incidents.
