Baroness Shaista Gohir OBE
Baroness (Shaista) Gohir has worked in the charity sector for nearly twenty years and is a leading women’s rights campaigner. She is the CEO of the national charity Muslim Women’s Network UK and in 2022 was appointed to the House of Lords as a Crossbench Peer. Through her research and advocacy work she ensures that lived experiences of minority ethnic women inform practice and policy making. She recently conducted research on the maternity care and her report: Maternity Experiences of Muslim Women from Racialised Minority Communities was launched at the House of Commons in July 2022. Shaista has served on various national and international advisory groups and boards and is currently a Non-Executive Director at the University Hospital North Midlands NHS Trust where she is the Maternity Safety Champion. She is also the Women’s Voices Lead at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists where she is involved in patient and public involvement (PPI) to ensure women’s views and experiences of maternity and gynaecology services are heard.
