Emma Burdon

Emma has worked within the NHS for more than 25 years, starting her nursing career as a registered nurse supporting individuals with learning disabilities. In 2005 she qualified as a registered midwife and has spent the last 18 years working primarily in the labour ward environment as well as working in roles in both risk management and practice development.

Emma  has a passion for quality improvement and has been involved in several quality improvement initiatives including that of the PreCept Programme focusing on reducing the incidence of brain injury in preterm babies.

Emma’s current role as a Clinical Quality Standards & Nursing Lead have given her a wealth of experience in leading investigations for serious incidents and she recognises the importance of learning from incidents and how we can effectively cascade this learning to wider teams. Emma believes in the importance of fostering a safer culture that listens to the experiences of the service users to ensure that the care we provide is safe and responsive.
