Dr Matthew Cauldwell

Matthew is a Consultant Obstetrician working in a Tertiary Centre in South West London. He is the lead clinician for a busy diabetes in pregnancy service and also lead for the obstetric high dependency unit. He trained in obstetrics in the South London region and has specialized in maternal medicine working for 3 years at the internationally renowned centre at Guy’s and St Thomas‘ Hospital working under the obstetric physicians in the unit. He also took time out of his training to undertake additional medical placements and completed the MRCP examinations.

Furthermore Matthew has completed an MD working at both Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and the Royal Brompton Hospital in maternal cardiac disease in pregnancy. He has published widely in this area and gives talks both nationally and internationally on this topic area. To date he has over 50 publications in the field of obstetrics and maternal medicine and is supervising a midwife who is completing a PhD at St George’s University Hospital. Matthew is involved in governance and has completed risk reviews for maternal death cases in London. He sits on the London Maternal Morbidity Panel.  He is lead for the SWL Maternal Medicine MDT.

In 2020 Matthew began working for the Independent Maternity Review in Shrewsbury and Telford and has since reviewed over 250 cases. He has been a chapter lead author for the review and since joined the Independent Maternity Review Team which is examining maternity care at Nottingham University Hospitals. He completed the Bond Solon Expert Witness Training in February 2022
