Carol Hudson
Carol qualified as general nurse in 1988 and spent a short time working in a paediatric setting before moving into neonatal care in 1992, where she found her true vocation. Carol is currently the senior advanced neonatal nurse practitioner in a level 3 intensive care unit, having completed additional training in 2005. She works on the medical rota in addition to supporting a team of trainee’s practitioners and junior medical staff.
Carol has a passion for patient safety and coordinates the risk local team in conjunction with the senior medical and nursing management. Timely investigation and prompt dissemination allows learning to be embedded in practice as quickly as possible. She also works closely with the network mortality review team, discussing cases and identifying learning which is shared both locally and regionally.
Carol recognises and champions the importance of parents having 24 hour access to their baby. Sadly many of the families cared for in Bradford are miles from home or have commitments to other children and they are not always able to be present. Carol worked with a local team to introduce ‘BabyView’ a secure video link that allows parents to dial in and see their baby in real time. The system also allows the nursing and medical team to give live updates.
