October 2024 Update Newsletter
Review Update
Since the Review started in September 2022, 1,997 families have joined the Review. We have now held 215 individual family meetings. Many families joined us at the Family Meeting which took place on Saturday 19th October. Thank you to everyone that attended, we hope that the meeting was supportive and informative and gave many of you the opportunity to meet other families, and ask any questions you have. Charities and organisations that were in attendance include Sands, MASIC, Sands United FC, Child Bereavement UK, and Aching Arms.
Charity of the Month – Footprints Conductive Education Centre
We are always looking for different ways to support families who are part of the Review. October’s Charity of the Month is Footprints Conductive Education Centre.
Footprints is a Nottingham based charity which transforms the lives of children living with mobility and communication difficulties across the East Midlands. At their centre and through their support, babies and children develop the skills they need to thrive and achieve their potential. Their work is inspired by the principles and practices of Conductive Education, a holistic education approach developed to help children with disabilities consciously learn the life skills that come more naturally to others. Their work encourages the development of physical, communication, social, sensory, self-help and thinking skills. Footprints work closely with the child and their family in a safe, positive and supportive environment to encourage and motivate each child’s desire to achieve tasks. At the same time, they give families the knowledge, confidence and strength to cope with the disabilities their child lives with and understand how they can help.

NMC & GMC: “Raising a concern about a doctor, nurse or midwife”
The General Medical Council (GMC) and Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) set the standards that doctors, nurses and midwives across the UK and nursing associates in England need to meet to deliver safe care. If someone raises concerns with the GMC/NMC about a doctor’s, nursing professional’s or midwife’s skills, behaviour or performance, they can investigate and take action. Anyone can raise a concern and they take every concern seriously. You can raise a concern about your own care, or on behalf of someone else. Find more information about raising a concern on their website.
To contact the GMC about a doctor
The quickest and easiest way is to complete their online form, or contact Laura Berryman. Laura is an Investigation Manager and the GMC’s point of contact for families involved in the Nottingham Maternity Review.
